Stay on Track this Holiday Season!

The holiday season has arrived, and with it comes plenty of parties, gatherings, and travel plans! Yes, the holidays are here, and while we enjoy time with family and friends, we must strive to stay on track and show up for ourselves, too. This month, we've created a guide to help you follow your routine as you enjoy the most magical time of the year. From travel tips to advice on handling late nights out, we've got you covered! Of course, it's easy to get off track during the holidays, but if we plan and develop positive solutions, nothing can derail our long-term wellness goals. Let's commit to finding balance this season as we prioritize our wellness and holiday fun!

  1. Change your mindset: Get rid of an all-or-nothing mentality! The holidays are about progress, not perfection. Focus on balance and acceptance. Aim to create the most mindful experience of your life this season! Did you know that an "All or Nothing" mindset is considered a form of cognitive distortion? Cognitive distortion refers to faulty and inaccurate thinking. "All or Nothing" mindsets generate negative ideas within us, but the good news is that we can choose to reframe our thoughts! Instead of seeing your routine as black or white, allow room for the grey. By shifting your focus from perfection to appreciation, you will experience greater fulfillment as you experience holiday festivities. Check out our gratitude guide and set the stage for a season of success!
  2. Plan Ahead: As the saying goes, "fail to plan and plan to fail." Look at your calendar from now through the end of the year. Make a note of when you're traveling, celebrating, and gathering with family and friends. Highlight the days you anticipate to be challenging, and then ask yourself - what small impactful change can I make here? Data shows that people who plan to work out go to the gym more often. See what goals are realistic and plan to accommodate them. Remember, staying on track is not about perfection; it's about doing your best with where you are. If you're flying, try walking around the airport between flights, stay hydrated, and pack or purchase healthy snacks. Nothing beats your usual routine, but this season, the focus is on enjoyment. Everything in moderation!
  3. Pack What You Need: If you're traveling to see family and won't be able to visit the gym, wear your walking shoes and get outdoors! If the weather is inclement, put on some gloves and boots. Find time to get in a quick walk or go for a run. Pack a Pilates mat and squeeze in a workout from our YouTube channel! Bring whatever clothes and accessories you need to support your routine as you create a balanced holiday schedule.
  4. Do something active each day: When visiting family, you might find that your plans are interrupted. No matter what happens, remind yourself that you are making memories with the most important people in your life! Have a backup plan and stick to doing something active each day. What if you miss a cardio routine but have the chance to bake cookies with your family? No worries! Volunteer for dish duty and remind yourself that non-exercise activity can also boost your metabolism.
Remember that the holidays are meant to be about joy! Give thanks for the ability to be alive for another round of holidays. Challenge yourself to remain in the present, and if you feel tempted to be hard on yourself - don't. The average human life span is only 71 years. Be as present as possible today; you can always work out tomorrow!
