Your 12-Month Guide to Self Care in 2025
Begin January 2025 with a sense of renewal and lay the foundation for a successful new year! A fresh set of twelve months has been reset, and the year ahead is brim with potential. What we become and do with time determines the life we live this year! To live life to the fullest, we must have a strong foundation and give ourselves time for self-care. Start the year off strong by caring for yourself like never before. Health is wealth, and by investing in self-care this year, you will ensure that no matter what each month brings, you have the strength, attitude, and capacity to handle it smoothly! This month, we have created 12 months of self-care to encourage you to support yourself in the year ahead, along with mantras designed to activate the awareness needed to approach each month:

January: Begin this month by focusing on your physical health as you organize your energy. Set aside 30 minutes at least three times weekly to begin a new path toward optimal well-being. Science shows a direct correlation between physical and mental health. Physical health problems significantly increase our risk of developing mental health problems, and vice versa. Research shows that doing exercise releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins in the brain. Even a short burst of 10 minutes of brisk walking can improve your mental alertness, energy, and mood. Get on your Frame Reformer and start this year by strengthening your body. By starting with your physical health, you will have more energy to tackle your goals!

February: Focus on finances this month and find more frugal ways to enjoy the year ahead! What can you do that costs nothing? Last month, we focused on moving more, and yes, moving costs nothing, but exercise is not the only way to add fulfillment to your life. When the weather is inclement, visit your local library and take out a few books that speak to you. Too cold to go in person? Many libraries now offer downloadable audiobooks and ebooks. A quick online search reveals many low or no-cost events in your area. Check out this budget worksheet and stay on top of your monthly expenses. Make financial goals and work towards them each week. Remember that life is not about how much we have but how fulfilling our lives are!

March: On March 20th at 5:01 AM EST, we welcome Spring! Now is the time that daylight gradually returns, and the habits that we've been developing begin to sprout as our financial and physical foundation emerges. Allow yourself a "Spring Break" this month, and find time to get away. If work and familial obligations prevent a "Spring Break," try a "Spring Break Staycation" instead. Make the theme "adding more light to your life," and create daily activities that awaken and enliven your sense of gratitude! Fill your bucket with joy and give thanks for what the Winter has taught you.

April: Congratulations! You have just lived through the first quarter of this year! April is the perfect time to pause, reflect on the first quarter of 2025, and look ahead with vision and intention to manifest more. What has working out, financially planning, and making time to savor the season taught you thus far? How are you feeling? Does the budget need revising? Does your workout routine need a refresh? Review and revise your self-care strategy this month and enhance what you're doing! Introduce a new habit this month and begin to track your gratitude. Each day, write down three things you are grateful for while actively repeating what was previously written. Check out our gratitude guide for inspiration! Fuel this month with grateful feelings and spring ahead with an open heart.

May: As the saying goes, "April showers bring May flowers!" As part of your self-care routine this month, we encourage you to bring nature indoors. Roses are a perfect place to begin! Studies have shown that indoor plants can improve focus, decrease depressive moods, and lessen symptoms of anxiety. When your mind and body are relaxed, it can improve your blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels. Water your plants as part of your weekly routine! Your local farmers' market may have the lowest prices, and you can get extra steps while you walk around.
Monthly Mantra: I am mindful of my energy as I water that which waters me.

June: Summer officially arrives on June 21st at 10:42 PM EST, and we mark a momentous occasion—six consecutive months of self-care! So far, we've created a 2025 workout routine, focused on our finances, made space for more light, reflected on our progress, and enhanced our home environment. As we prepare for Summer to officially begin, we focus on hydration! As the weather changes and intense summer heat returns, we must prepare our bodies to stay hydrated all season long. Most people need between 4-6 cups of water daily, but when the sun is out, and we're active, that number increases to eight ounces of water every 15 to 20 minutes during the physical parts of your day. Water also helps flush out excess toxins, maintain regularity, transport nutrients and oxygen, increase energy, and help fight fatigue. As you review your summer plans this month, track your water intake. Experiment and try adding things like lemon or rosemary to your drinks. Build the habit of reaching for H20 instead of sugary drinks, and start summer off right!
Monthly Mantra: I am grateful for safe, clean drinking water, and with each sip, I am energized.

July: Add a "digital detox" to your itinerary as Summer travel plans begin! Immerse yourself in your surroundings and enjoy all the sightseeing your vacation offers. Too frequently, apps and notifications take us out of the present and challenge us to focus our attention elsewhere. One study found that around 25% of smartphone owners between ages 18 and 44 don't remember the last time their phone wasn't right next to them. Every scroll or swipe sends a hit of dopamine to the same areas of your brain that respond to addictive and dangerous drugs. Unplugging from your devices or using them less can help improve your quality of life. Try silencing your phone and all notifications. If you're not traveling, try visiting a local park or museum and refrain from checking your phone. Build the habit of becoming unavailable as you disconnect from the digital world! Your future self will thank you!

August: This month, expand your self-care routine to include spending time by the water. Typically, August is the last month before we resume our regular schedules and enter Autumn. Let's be intentional and pencil in time to be by the water as we soak up Summer's end. Science shows that being near water can make you happier, healthier, more connected, and better at your work. If you are fortunate to vacation near a beach or a lake, consider yourself lucky and allow the sounds of the water to cleanse your mind. If you're an urban dweller, find a park with a pond and a cozy place to meditate. In ayurveda, the ancient Indian medicinal wisdom, and traditional Chinese medicine, the water element is crucial to balancing the body and creating physical harmony. Tap into ancient knowledge and give yourself at least 15 minutes a week to be by the water as you elevate your mood and harmonize your mind.

September: Autumn arrives at 8:43 AM on September 22nd, and we will begin this month by focusing on balance as we re-enter our routine. As we release the season that was, let's pause to celebrate all the healthy habits we've made! We have stuck with our weekly fitness routine, focused on our finances, welcomed light into our lives, activated gratitude, enhanced our environment, increased our hydration, detoxed digitally, and cleansed our minds by the water. What a fulfilling year! Autumn is associated with harvesting the fruits of our labor, and now is the time to add a new habit- wellness wisdom! For the remainder of the year, we will pause and journal for 5 minutes daily to write down the wisdom this year taught us. October: The changing of seasons reminds us of what we leave behind and what we do with what once was. Let's add a 10-minute brisk walk to our wellness routine as the leaves fall and the trees become barren. During this walk, notice all that is changing and what remains the same. Pause and think about what cycles in your life are expiring and what new cycles are entering. When you've finished your walk, gather your thoughts or use an app to record what feelings have surfaced. Allow this habit to reconnect you with the present and process arising emotions. By practicing mindfulness, you will experience an emotionally fulfilling month as you continue your year of wellness!

November: By now, you are the most balanced, organized, abundant, and energized version of yourself
— so what's missing? A little more movement! This November, we will deepen our Pilates Practice and increase gratitude. November is National Gratitude Month, and this month, as we bend, stretch, and flex, we will meet each moment with a renewed sense of appreciation for the body that we have! December: Congratulations! You made it! Another trip around the sun! As we celebrate the end of 2025 and prepare ourselves for the journey ahead, remind yourself of all you have done to build a better life this year. Look back at your journals, take stock of any plants you welcomed in the spring, and notice increased strength and stamina. Remind yourself of the powerhouse you are by celebrating all you have accomplished. This year proves that you can achieve something when you put your mind to it! Our final step in this year-long journal of self-care is treating yourself to something meaningful to honor the year that was. Remember the financial planning we activated in February, and choose something that fits your budget! Now, decide, will you pick a piece of jewelry to anchor you to success? Will you plan a trip and explore new terrain? Or will you pass on all you have learned and donate something in your honor? You get to decide!
